What brides ask me about makeup, step by step

Journal · by PUCCA diana · 7 min readPublished

These are the questions I get most often, in the order they usually come up. I have put them together because most brides send them to me on WhatsApp a few days before, and some of them would have been far more useful a few months before.

Booking and the trial

The most common mistake is not about makeup, it is about the calendar. The good dates in the season fill up a long way ahead, and if you also have other people to book on the same morning, things get complicated quickly.

How far in advance should I book my bridal makeup?

Ideally about a year in advance. Bookings can be made a few months ahead too, but the window between a year and six months is the best. Especially if you have to be ready early or you have several people to book, it is good to talk in advance.

The start time on the wedding day

This is where most brides lose time, because they think forwards instead of backwards. The only correct anchor is the time you have to be ready, not the time you would like to start.

What time do we start the makeup on the wedding day?

We work backwards, from the time you have to be ready. If your first photographs are at 12:00, ideally you are completely ready at 11:00, with makeup and hair done. If the makeup takes an hour and a half, we start at 9:30, and the hair appointment lands around 7:30 or 8:00. Factor in the travel time from the salon to where you get dressed.

Do I go to hair or makeup first?

I recommend hair first. That way the makeup stays fresh, and at the end you see the complete picture, veil included.

Can I have my hair done before the makeup?

Yes, you can have your hair done either before or after the makeup. I recommend before.

What happens if I am late for the appointment?

It would be much better not to be late. A bridal appointment lasts an hour and a half precisely because I leave extra time for delays or the unexpected. Most of the time we finish the makeup even if you are a little late, but would you not rather be relaxed? Better to plan the bookings in advance.

How to come to the appointment

There are two small things that change the result a lot, and both are about what is on your face when you walk in.

Should I come with a bare face?

Yes. Especially on the wedding day it is best to come with clean skin and no makeup.

What should I put on my face before the appointment?

Ideally nothing. If you have a cream you use daily, you can apply it in the morning. I cleanse your skin before the makeup anyway.

False lashes

This is the subject I get the most worry about, especially from brides who have never worn them. There are more options than the classic strip.

Are false lashes included in bridal makeup?

Yes, false lashes are always included, whatever the type of makeup.

I have never worn false lashes. How will they look on me?

I use several types: strip, half lashes or clusters. We can use very small lashes, only on the outer corner, which lift the gaze but look very natural. There are options where you almost cannot tell they are false, but which show up in photographs and in real life.

What makeup can and cannot do

I prefer to say this from the start, so there are no surprises at the mirror. Makeup works very well with the colour of the skin and very little with its texture.

Can I cover blemishes, marks or scars?

Makeup can even out the colour of the skin beautifully, but it does not change its texture. If you have indented scars, enlarged pores or raised blemishes, the texture will show in certain lights or from certain angles. What we can do is even out the colour and the overall look, without loading the skin.

If there are several of you

Brides rarely come alone. Usually there is the godmother, the mother of the bride or friends, and that completely changes the time calculation above.

Can I book other people, not just the bride?

Of course, as many as you need. You can make the bookings yourself, or give me their phone numbers and I will contact them.

What I have not put here

The part about how we choose the style, what to do if you cry and why you should not wear a look just because it is in fashion, I wrote separately, in the article about why the bride is not a detail of the wedding. What each option includes is on the bridal makeup in Bacău page, and the prices for the trial, travel and packages are in the price list.
