Why your makeup doesn't last and how I make it stay all day

Close-up of fresh skin, prep for long-lasting makeup by Pucca Diana

You paid for a makeup look and by noon the color had changed, it was shining or it felt like a mask on your face. It is one of the most common fears before a booking, and it is a fair one. The good news is that every one of these problems has a clear cause and a solution. Here is how I prevent them.

Why makeup doesn't last

Most often, makeup fails to hold for two reasons: the skin was not prepped properly and it was not set at the end. Foundation applied on dehydrated or oily skin sits unevenly and migrates. That is why I take my time prepping the skin first, and at the end I set every layer, so everything holds up through emotions, photos and dancing, for hours on end.

Lasting power does not come from more product, it comes from proper prep and setting.

Why foundation turns orange

The phenomenon is called oxidation: the pigments in the foundation react with your sebum, oils and skin pH, and the color darkens or shifts toward orange after a few hours. It happens mostly with products that are not suited to your skin type. I prevent it by prepping the skin, choosing the right shade and using tested products that do not oxidize on you.

The mask effect

That mask-like feeling comes from too much product and from a shade that does not match your neck. To avoid it, I build coverage only where it is needed, in thin layers, and I match the foundation to your neck, not just your cheek. That way the skin stays skin, radiant, not a flat and heavy surface.

"I don't want to look like someone else"

This is perhaps the most important fear: getting up from the chair and no longer recognizing yourself. I always start from your own features, not from a photo off the internet. At the trial we work together until you fully recognize yourself in the mirror. The goal is not to transform you, it is for you to be you, in your most radiant version.

The takeaway

Makeup that lasts, does not oxidize and does not look like a mask is not luck, it is method: prepped skin, the right products, thin layers and setting. If you have had a bad experience before, let's talk about what you want, and I will build the look around you. And if you would rather learn the method yourself, in the self-makeup course, one-to-one, two sessions of 3 hours each, 1000 RON, we work step by step on your own face.

What I do differently for each skin type

On oily skin I use matte textures in the T-zone and keep the luminosity only where I want it to catch the light. Otherwise, after two hours, everything that was glow turns to shine.

On dry and mature skin I do the opposite: I hydrate more and avoid excess powder, so the product does not gather in fine lines. On sensitive or acne-prone skin, the products I choose matter as much as how I apply them.

What you can do yourself, between touch-ups

The most useful thing is not to add product on top of skin that has been perspiring. Blot the skin with a dry tissue to absorb the excess oil, then leave it. A new layer over one that has already moved does more damage than repair.

If you have a long event and want to look the same in the evening, there is evening makeup as a separate service, and the Makeup Refresh at 200 RON, which starts from the makeup you are already wearing.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't makeup last all day?

Most often because the skin is not prepped and the makeup is not set. With proper prep, professional products and setting, makeup lasts from morning to night.

Why does foundation turn orange?

It is called oxidation: the pigments react with your sebum and skin pH. It is avoided by prepping the skin, choosing the right shade and using products that do not oxidize.

How do I avoid the mask effect?

With thin layers applied only where they are needed and a shade that matches your neck, not just your cheek. The skin stays skin, not a flat surface.

Will I look like myself or like someone else?

Like you, just more radiant. I start from your own features and, at the trial, we adjust until you fully recognize yourself in the mirror.

Does makeup last on oily skin?

Yes, if it is built for oily skin. Matte textures in the T-zone, luminosity only where it belongs, and setting in layers rather than only at the end.

What is the Makeup Refresh?

A separate service, 200 RON, which starts from the makeup you are already wearing. I refresh the skin, correct small imperfections and, if you want, intensify the makeup for the evening. It takes 20 to 30 minutes.
